Düsseldorf, 30 May 2016. The 70. birthday of the state of North-Rhine Westphalia and its capital city is fast approaching. To set the mood for the three-day anniversary festivities in August under the banner “Give us a hug. Congratulations to NRW for 70 years of partnership”, using an XXL photo box Kontrast Communication Services and the city of Düsseldorf bring home the campaign motto – to German citizens and to life.
Campaign demonstrates authentically lived diversity
The Rhinelanders and Westphalians have been getting on famously for 70 years now. Over the past few decades, the two regions have pulled together to become a true union. Politically, socially and on a human level. Citizens of all regions, long-term residents and newcomers, rural dwellers and hipsters, industrial workers, media professionals, soccer fans, carnival enthusiasts etc. are given an opportunity to show how true this is. Under the campaign motto “Lass Dich drücken” (give us a hug) they can congratulate the state and each other with a documented hug.
Give us a hug…and have your picture taken
The pictures are provided by a photo box that is positioned at various locations across the state over the following months. The NRW tour kicks off on 21 May in Düsseldorf, where the photo box was tested on Japan Day and met with positive feedback. The next stops of the tour are to be announced soon on the Facebook page (HTTPS://WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/NRWTAG).
Using the photo box is as simple as it is fun: People can stand inside it, hug/embrace and have their picture taken. An e-mail address is entered to receive a digital copy of the photo and for uploading it (with consent) to Facebook and Twitter. Participants also enter a sweepstakes organized by the city of Düsseldorf. First prize is a weekend at the Maritim Hotel in Düsseldorf for the Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2017, with an elaborate Tour de France package.

Concept and realization of the photo box are a part of the state-wide campaign “Lass Dich drücken. Glückwunsch NRW zu 70 Jahren Miteinander.” (Give us a hug. Congratulations to NRW for 70 years of partnership.), created by Kontrast Communication Services. Commissioned by the city of Düsseldorf, in cooperation with Düsseldorf Marketing & Tourismus GmbH, the Düsseldorf-based agency developed the entire concept including the slogan, logo, look & feel and a comprehensive package of measures. Until the actual NRW Day finally arrives, various formats and media will put everyone in the mood for the festivities.
